The Caldecott Club is a picture-book program for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade.  The purpose of the club is to foster an appreciation of the best illustrated books for children. Families who participate will become familiar with the rich variety of Caldecott Award-winning picture books.

Joining the EC Caldecott Club

In order to join the Caldecott Club as a new member this year, students will use the Caldecott Bibliography/Booklist available in the library (or print from link below) and must read 25 Caldecott Medal or Honor books during the school year. The Booklist is also the Members Form: you check off when you have read a book, and submit the completed Booklist. Please read the requirements in the “Letter to Families” and submit the completed Booklist no later than Friday, March 14, 2025.

Returning Members of the Club

Second-time members must read 15 Caldecott award or honor books and create a bookmark. Students should complete the reading requirement and return the Caldecott 2nd-Time Members Form to the library no later than Friday, March 14, 2025. Details of the art project are listed on the members form. 

Third-time members must read 15 Caldecott award or honor books and create a self-portrait on a picture tile. Students should complete the reading requirement and return the Caldecott 3rd-Time Members Form to the library no later than Friday, March 14, 2025. Details of the art project are listed on the members form.  

Materials for both art project should be collected from the library.

How to Identify a Caldecott Book

Caldecott books in the EC Library can be identified by the red ribbon sticker on the spine. 

Caldecott books from other libraries or from a bookstore can usually be identified by the gold sticker on the front cover.

The library also has print copies which your student can request from the librarians.

Paper for the bookmark project (2nd-time members) and picture-tile project (3rd-time members) should be collected from the library.
